6th Grade Word Problems

The following 6th grade word problems are for CCSS 6 SPb 5.c (Statistics & Data analysis).  They deal with averages.  (The mean is the average).

The mean weight of 6 containers is 15 pounds. If one of the containers with a weight of 10 pounds is removed, what is the new mean weight of the remaining boxes?


There are 25 students in a college math class. The mean age of 15 students is 20 years. The mean age of the remaining 10 students of the class is 24 yrs. What is the mean age of all the students in the class?
